Is it possible for someone with asperger's or a mild form of it to only clearly exhibit the symptoms later on?

for example, in childhood some of the symptoms such as lack of eye contact, odd posture or gait, may be shown, but narrow interests or fluent speaking may not until later on in life along with other typical symptoms of AS. i know it probably sounds like i'm splitting hairs here, but i'd like to believe that there's some kind of biological explanation for my past experiences which in retrospect seem very much different from others'
