Has anyone painted a room black or dark charcoal? If so how does it look?

I am giving away my age but I remember seeing a Beatniks bedroom when I was a kid in the early 60's that was totally black with white curtains. It was most radical at that time and people would just look at you funny. If you buy a black bathroom sink or toilet these days they call it a designer color and charge you extra. It will be hotter so make sure your AC is working but I think it would be really nice in a dark charcoal gray. Any colorful art you put up will stand out beautifully.
